Yip Man (Ip Man) Commentary on Western Boxing

Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu is also known as 'Chinese boxing.' For the making of his video, "Yip Man", Ving Tsun Grandmaster Moy Yat (one of the famous Yip Man’s (Ip Man) top disciples in Hong Kong) sat for an interview with one of his own senior SSA disciples in the US, Mickey Chan. Many of his students were curious if Yip Man admired or discussed other Kung Fu systems, and Moy Yat recalls that his Sifu once said that, "Boxing is pretty good."

Transcript from this 'Yip Man' video excerpt:

Mickey Chan: Did SiGung [Yip Man (Ip Man)] ever analyze other systems, or comment on them? What other Kung Fu systems did he admire?

Moy Yat: Since he is a Grandmaster of Ving Tsun [wing chun] … I believe the only system he admired is [the] Ving Tsun system. But, he once told me that boxing is pretty good. The only bad part is [it has] so many rules, to control - you’re not allowed to hit the back, hit this, hit that. So, if [fighting] on the street, without those rules, boxing is pretty good. That’s what he admired.
