Kung Fu Masters gather in Richmond, VA

At a private event during the weekend of May 4-6, around 180 martial artists in the Yip Man (Ip Man) and Moy Yat Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu lineage will meet. Event participants are coming from around the nation and the world for three days of training, teaching and celebration of Moy Yat Kung Fu and the 3rd decade anniversary of the Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy.

The Richmond Moy Yat Academy was founded in 1986 by Richmond native Anthony Moy Tung Dandridge. Grandmaster Moy Tung was a disciple of the late Grandmaster Moy Yat, who was himself a close, personal student of the legendary Yip Man in Hong Kong. Yip Man also taught Bruce Lee and many more, including Moy Bing Wah, who introduced Moy Yat to Yip Man, and is a guest of honor at this historic anniversary event. The Richmond Academy is also especially honored this year by the presence of Sitai Helen Moy, wife of Moy Yat, and his son, William Moy, and by the many extended Moy Yat Kung Fu family visiting for this event.

One of Grandmaster Moy Tung's own direct disciples, the Sifu (Kung Fu master teacher) of the Richmond West End branch school, Moy Lung Barry O'Brien, commented:

“This is the largest group of Kung Fu masters to ever gather in the Richmond, VA area. There will be over 30 kung fu teachers and 150 students, in six kung fu generations, coming from around the US and the world to teach and train in Richmond and Henrico.

“We will be honoring the legacy of our Sigung Moy Yat and the last three decades of hard work by his disciple, our Sifu Moy Tung. We are celebrating that the Richmond branch of the Moy Yat Kung Fu family has grown to over 25 schools nationally, with three generations of students teaching.

“We feel blessed that so many of Grandmaster Moy Yat's kung fu family are joining us for this event. We look forward to continuing to improve people’s lives through the health and discipline that results from kung fu training."

Every day will be filled with hours of training informed by periodic lectures, instructions, insights and details from over a dozen of some of the highest-level grandmasters in the Moy Yat lineage of Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu.

At the seminar, there will also be a Bai Tze, a traditional Chinese kung fu discipleship ceremony, and a traditional Chinese Kung Fu Lion Dance. Saturday evening there will be a private family banquet, and on Sunday a special family Dim Sum (traditional Cantonese meal).

At these kung fu family gatherings Grandmaster Moy Yat’s Ving Tsun legacy will be celebrated, expressed in the growth of the many branches under him, including the more than two dozen around the US under his disciple, Grandmaster Moy Tung.

Many formal and informal individual, small and large group photos will be taken to document the event and the participants. The lectures, instructions, demonstrations and training will be professionally video-recorded. Select edited videos will be made available for purchase, some for the Moy Yat Kung Fu family, and others for the general public. See kungfuhq.com for more info.

The Richmond Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy anniversary events are limited to active students, but people everywhere are encouraged to attend an introductory class at Grandmaster Moy Tung's own Richmond Academy, 3 other branches in the Richmond area, or another branch near you from the over 25 nationwide.
